Ottawa, ON - Pinoys on Parliament, the first national youth conference for Filipino-Canadian youth extends its invitation to our kababayans in Alberta. Delegates are encouraged to register as soon as possible. 20 spots will be held for delegates in Alberta and the rest of the Prairies until January 1st, after which positions will be open to the general population on the waitlist.
Pinoys on Parliament is a three-day conference that brings together Filipino-Canadian youth in the nation’s capital. From February 21-23, 2020, delegates will have an opportunity to participate in workshops, networking events, and attend panels composed of notable Filipino-Canadian leaders.
“In a way, [Pinoys on Parliament] is a TED talk featuring Fil’ Can’ speakers who have found success in the fields of academia, business, entertainment and politics and want to give back to the next generation. It’s also an incubator where these same speakers connect with attendees through workshops and a mentee-mentor relationship. If you love listening to stories, if you feel encouraged by civic engagement, and if anecdotes motivate you to action, I know you’re going to love PoP,” says Ontario delegate Michael.
Aside from building connections with other delegates and professionals from other provinces and territories, participants will also have the opportunity to explore landmarks in Ottawa as well as engage with the Filipino community in the city. Last year, delegates toured the House of Commons and attended an event at the Philippine Embassy.
At the end of the conference, delegates will be invited to participate in a six-month mentorship program where they will be matched with leaders in sectors and areas of expertise who have interests and fields of work similar to theirs.
In keeping with this year’s theme of Magkasama, the Filipino word for “Together,” Pinoys on Parliament is excited to build bridges between Filipino-Canadians and provide a space where they can foster connections to lift, grow, and achieve their goals together as they traverse on their journey as future leaders of Canada.
