LENTEN SEASON HOLY WEEK: AN HONEST – TO – GOODNESS PAUSE, FLASHBACK, INSPIRE TO CHANGE
The whole Christendom fall on their knees. Kneel in humility, pound their breast in utter repentance, and does some serious soul searching. Is this a picture or reflection of YOU? Possibly YES in most instances and NO in others. Let’s step back and share with each other a few minutes of our time. Let’s travel back in our memories about 2,000 years ago when Christianity was established.
The world indeed was steeped in simplicity and meeting basic needs. Occupations consisted of farming, carpentry, fishing, weaving, ad others that provide uncomplicated solutions to everyday existence. However, the hub of life revolved around the church or a holy place of gathering where souls seek healing and comfort. Time immemorial had already tongues wagging, assumptions thriving, impure eyes beholding, and wicked thoughts lurking, There are those who worship the gods of their liking and went on with life unenlightened. There were those who knew that a better world of order and harmony was coming. They kept in their hearts this joyful hope of salvation amidst man’s unrelenting and undisciplined life of excesses and abandon.
Sure enough, a God-given savior came and circulated among them. His stark simplicity in taking on material goods and comfort pointed to a meaningful and closer inner world encounter. His ways and aura were in sharp contrast to the prevailing ways of that time. Humility replaced pride, forgiveness and reconciliation were brought to the fore, and loving your fellowmen in the truest sense of the word took hold of their attitude and deeds. It was a subtle transformation that gripped hearts and minds.
Our short journey is meant for us to reflect not only our current time but to take the context of the older world too. It shows nothing much has changed in the inner worlds of the spirit. The same tug – of – war between good and evil persist, wherein the lesser and baser emotions take hold. However, hope springs eternal in the human breast. Man’s infinite capacity to improve does prove itself in each and everyone of us. The subtle message of which the ages cry out is – to be aware of our frail and weak humanity that can rise and overcome wickedness with pure and authentic goodness. This is the message we can all plaster in our hearts, mind, and spirits which can only bear fruit in action and deeds.
“Love the Lord thy God with all your heart and strength and your neighbor as thyself.”
