“Fiesta Filipino brings PPop to Calgary” – This was the headline as Fiesta Filipino revealed that BGYO would be the special guest artist for Fiesta Filipino 2023: Dare to Dream through their social media. The folks behind the event, known as the Philippine Festival Council of Alberta, had an eye for the new generation of Filipino music. When artists like J Roa, December Avenue, Ben&Ben, and Arthur Nery performed in Calgary, it hit them that a big part of Alberta’s Filipino community is also made up of young Filipinos. BGYO, the rising pop boy band, stands as one of numerous emerging groups in the Philippine music sphere striving to make their mark on the global musical stage under the banner of PPop. In a recent poll conducted by Fiesta Filipino, involving a selection of PPop boy bands, BGYO emerged victorious by a significant margin. The oblivious council then reached out to BGYO management and it appears as if the stars have aligned, with the boy band coincidentally holding a confirmed slot at the upcoming 1MX Music Festival in Toronto. The universe sure has a way of creating possibilities for those who genuinely care for the people. Although mostly known among the younger generations, more than half of the Alberta Filipino demographic is still unaware of the rise of PPop and BGYO. So who exactly is BGYO?
BGYO, the sensational Filipino pop group, embarked on their remarkable journey from the halls of ABS-CBN’s Star Hunt Academy. Comprising the gifted quintet of Gelo, Akira, JL, Mikki, and Nate, BGYO’s origins trace back to their intensive training in singing, dancing, and performance arts. Having undergone rigorous training, BGYO emerged as polished and versatile artists, honing their talents to perfection. Their time at the academy not only enriched their musical prowess but also instilled in them the discipline and collaborative spirit essential for success in the competitive entertainment landscape. In May 2020, Star Hunt Academy Management surprised the public with their debut performance video via a tweet by Director Lauren Dyogi. The group’s first appearance garnered immense positive feedback, leading to recurring performances on the popular show “ASAP Natin ‘To.” This marked the start of their journey, with subsequent appearances on shows like “It’s Showtime,” “Pinoy Big Brother,” ABS-CBN Christmas projects, and specials. The Trainees quickly gained a diverse and dedicated fanbase.

Debuting in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic was no small feat, yet BGYO defied the odds and released their first single, “The Light,” in January 2021. This debut track not only showcased their vocal prowess, dance finesse, and magnetic stage presence but also signaled the birth of a group that would capture the hearts of millions around the world. Their determination to spread positivity in a challenging time resonated deeply, earning them a special place in the hearts of fans across the globe. Dubbed as the “Aces of PPop” for their exceptional Artistry, Charisma, Excellence, and Stage presence, BGYO’s performances transcend mere entertainment, offering a sensory experience that leaves audiences spellbound. Their synchronized choreography, exceptional vocals, and genuine connection with their music have set a new standard for pop acts everywhere. With each new release, they continue to push their creative boundaries, seamlessly blending different genres and experimenting with sounds that appeal to a wide range of listeners. Central to BGYO’s rise is their fervently devoted fanbase, known as “Aces.” This community of supporters has stood by the group since their inception, serving as a driving force behind their achievements. Through social media, fan art, and enthusiastic engagement, Aces have amplified BGYO’s impact, turning every milestone into a collective celebration. BGYO’s recognition of this unwavering support only further solidifies their genuine and heartfelt connection with those who have championed their journey from the very beginning. As the world hurtles into the future, BGYO stands as a shimmering example of the power of music to unite, inspire, and elevate. From their humble beginnings at the Star Hunt Academy to their status as global pop sensations, the story of BGYO is one of perseverance, innovation, and unbridled passion. With an ever-expanding discography, a legion of dedicated fans, and a spirit that knows no bounds, BGYO continues to write their chapter in the annals of pop music, leaving an indelible mark that will resonate for generations to come.
