To visit family, a trip across the city isn’t a big deal. Especially when it involves a great meal.
A popular family breakfast and brunch spot in Calgary’s Creekside, The Bro’kin Yolk opened in the summer of 2015 and immediately developed a reputation for long wait times to get a seat. After nearly three years of success, owners and brothers Gil and Jeff Carlos opened up their second location in Mahogany.
“We had a lot of customers who were travelling from across the city to visit us in Creekside,” explains Gil. “We’ve known for a long time that we wanted to make it easier for customers to access our food, so that’s why we opened a new location to serve them better.”
The new Bro’kin Yolk location has the same menu as the original restaurant and follows the same model – bring quality breakfast food with great service to the suburbs of Calgary.
With new neighbourhoods still developing on the edges of the city, many desire quality restaurants, shops and services that are normally found in central Calgary. Bro’Kin Yolk aspires to bring a trendy spot with a satisfying breakfast to fill the gap in these neighbourhoods.
“We want the Bro’kin Yolk experience to be consistent with what our customers have come to expect,” says Gil. “Great food with great service. So to launch the new location we brought our experienced staff down from Creekside to help our Mahogany location start off on the right foot.”
The brothers even brought the menu their customers have grown to love down with them, with dishes that that showcase their Filipino heritage.
“If you have tried our house-cured bacon, you may recognize the flavours as Filipino-cured meat,” says Gil. “A few years ago we also introduced our Bro’s Breakfast, which is pork belly adobo, and has become one of our most popular dishes among our Filipino guests.”
The menu has expanded over the year and still features popular breakfast items like waffles, poutines, bennys, and other classics.
With a second location already moving and growing in popularity in a completely new area of Calgary, the brothers continue to experiment with their menu and have recently introduced feature breakfast sandwiches at their Creekside location.
“We’re testing out a breakfast on the go option that we might bring to Calgary with the right opportunity,” says Gil.
With the Bro’kin Yolk family continuing to grow, the Carlos brothers hope that more Calgarians embrace their restaurant.
